Strong light must be surrounded by thick darkness. The co-existence of light in darkness presents a paradoxical challenge in the investigation of subverting perceptions of light to present the dark side of humanity.
My works examine the conditions of creating an immersive experience through staging theatrical darkness within the practice of installation art. Upon determining the context of focusing on media narratives, shifting from conflicts to humanitarian crisis of recency, decision had been made to analyse image representation covered by news, and investigate the hierarchical relationship between word and image.
My current research aims to exemplify the relationship between signifying and representing image and text: translated through iconic, symbolic and indexical means; emancipating the spectator from the spectacle of ‘media manipulation’.
